I have thought for a long time that Newark NJ Mayor Booker should be on a presidential ballot someday. He has been known to randomly shovel out elderly people from snow storms & deliver diapers to families snowed in — all himself. Rushing into a burning building to rescue someone is no surprise from him. I've been following him for a long time on Twitter and he's smart, informed, and personable.
I had to look up just now what 'party' he sides with, as I don't choose to look at that but instead look at his actions. I'm sure he's not perfect, but I've never seen a political person so deeply involved in his community.

I have only heard spectacularly wonderful things about Booker myself. And he's handsome to boot!

I remember the rivalry he had with Conan a few years ago. Helped him gain national exposure and showcased all the really cool, unconventional things he's done for the city.
He's doing very good things in Newark…when he has the resources. There is some criticism of him being a media hound, but I personally believe that is a product of his good work and not a product of him seeking it out. Also, his actions are in stark contrast to those of his predecessor, Sharp James, which also makes it noteworthy. The other major criticism of him would be the crime rate…bit crime was going down until his budget was slashed so severely that they had to lay off I believe half of their patrol. Crime immediately rose…but what do you think is going to happen when criminals know that there are less police officers? How can you fault Mayor Booker for that? My ex lives next to a park in Newark that was so overrun with drug dealers that kids couldn't play there at all. He literally barricaded the block, cleaned it out, and if you weren't aware of the neighborhood's past troubles, you would be none the wiser. He's doing great things and I hope that he runs for Governor one day.

My buddy lives in Newark and he's mentioned before seeing him out on late night patrols with cops, and it was all done without fanfare and during non-election cycles. I hope to see him more in politics!
Booker seems like a really nice guy who plays the media and system well. I do think he's a bit too much of a Christiecrat though. I always have to play devil's advocate on all the fawning that goes on over people like him. He's completely in bed with Christie on education, which is a huge minus in my mind. He seems like a nice, caring guy, but I'm dismayed at how much he isn't, as well as what he is.
