Who's got Olympic fever? The news that Twitter struck a deal with the Olympics for coverage – and apparently the ability to sell Olympic-targeted ads – caught my eye. Now, for me, I always take sponsored messages / blog posts / articles / etc. with a grain of salt. As these are sporting events, I don't know how much leeway there is for opinion, outside of each countries viewpoint, etc., so Twitter should be a great enough place to follow events. Still, the opportunity to shove branded messages in everyone's faces during events is evident. Last Olympics social media was not nearly as developed as it is today, and I fear that marketers and advertisers will be up to their same old tricks….

Do you "live-Tweet" or follow Twitter during television shows or sporting events? What would following the Olympics on Twitter bring you that you couldn't already get from watching television or online video?
