I’ve been offline from my own blog for eight months. That may be a record. What was I doing? MOVING across the country from farmland New Jersey to San Antonio Texas. After being born and raised here and then raising my own kids in Jersey, it was time to leave.

I’ve been in San Antonio three weeks or so now. We are settling in okay and still living somewhat out of boxes. It’s routinely hit 98-100 degrees here but doesn’t feel that bad to us. Yet…

Our NJ house is up for sale. Our town is beautiful. Our house is gorgeous. The yard and landscaping are stunning. Some amazing family needs to buy it and raise their kids there!

We have been to San Antonio quite a number of times over the past few years but finally get to be ‘tourists!’ We have ventured up through the Texas Hill Country – and I found a corridor of wineries! SCORE! Over the next weeks and months, we will be making an effort to explore all there is within the city as well as out in the country. When the weather cools down a bit I want to take the kids and my mom to the Riverwalk and the Alamo. The food here is amazing! Speaking of which… I need to find a new gym in the area. I’d rather eat and exercise than not eat all this food!

Husband

Adjusting fine. He has a desk and his computer and doesn’t need much else.

Daughter

She’s VERY excited about starting a new high school. She’s already had a few meetings, notably being the choir and new student orientation.

Son

He’s over-the-moon with the neighborhood. A week after moving here the boy literally next door came over (a grade behind) and the two of them have been nearly inseparable ever since. He misses his NJ friends for sure.

My Mom

Despite not knowing anyone here or her way around (even with Waze), she’s driving around the far north area of the city where we live. I’m pretty sure she will be going to the Florida condo over the holidays and winter.

The Dogs

Pretty happy, especially compared to being on five hours of plane rides – in the cabin with us – to get here. The experience of having neighbors is new to them. They like to bark at all the neighbors’ dogs. There are a lot of them. Especially at 2am or 6am or 11pm. They are also dumbfounded that the laser pointer which they love and covet and loathe has followed them here.

Me

I’m good. I can’t believe we pulled this off after MONTHS of staring at my micro-planned spreadsheet of tasks. Quite honestly I’m itching to get out and network and socialize a bit as I’ve been doing nothing but packing boxes for months. MONTHS.I moved my business networking (FemCity) membership from Philly to San Antonio and super excited to start meeting local business women. I don’t have my office set up yet (this stresses me out.) We have an office for work – still need to set up our furniture and equipment there. My home office is will be what should be the front living room in the (rental) house but it’s currently full of moving boxes. The beginning of this year I wanted to re-focus my consulting business but got majorly sidetracked with the move. I need to get creative and get going on that. I’m sick of being in limbo.
