Five Minutes To Create

Five Minutes To Create

Taggie Blanket ToyToday I threw in the towel (literally) and did something creative. Well, not my best work to be sure, and the end result was for the baby, not me, but hell it counts! I was on Etsy to leave some feedback for the super-awesome handmade soap I ordered and decided to see if anyone crafty had made a ‘taggie’ blanket toy for babies. Kidlette was never a baby that had a lovey or favorite toy, but the Pumpkin is totally fascinated with the tags on anything. I suppose a lot of babies are, because I have been looking up some cute blanket with a whole lot of extra tags sewn on them.

Pumpkin and Taggie ToyAfter searching around for 30 seconds, it hit me. *I* am creative, aren’t I? I have a sewing machine and thousands of dollars of crafting supplies. Why don’t *I* take five minutes and make my own damn baby toy?? So I did. Granted, I don’t have all the cutsie fabrics on hand that the girls on Etsy do – plus my choice would be flaming guitars or skulls or something – so I grabbed a wash cloth. We must have 40, so who’s to miss one? End result, five minutes of time, the older kid kept the younger kid from eating electrical cords in the family room while I ran and sewed.

I feel so much better now. But it also gives me motivation to get off my ass and CLEAN! Hopefully the baby will stay busy with his new toy.

First Haircut

First HaircutToday we took Jack for his first official haircut. We went to the same kids salon that we took Kidlette to when she was a year old. Jack couldn’t wait that long – he’s 7 months old today. He was such a good boy and never cried until after we got him out of the chair at the end (I think he was itchy from all the hair on him).

After we got home, he got a bath, lunch, and is now sacked out on my lap. His hair looks really cute, and he’s still young enough to look like a baby with a ‘big boy’ haircut!

First Haircut

Well, maybe not technically a ‘haircut’, but just me giving the Pumpkin Prince a quick trim. Geek mamma that I am I had to search the ‘net and see what others say about cutting a 5 1/2 month old infant boy’s hair. Not that I wanted someone to validate the fact that I was cutting it, but looking more for instructions. I found a few things, but nothing that helped, except the suggestion to sneak it in when he’s sleeping. What I really needed was suggestions on how to get the job done on an infant that can’t sit up unassisted. All in all I didn’t do such a bad job, and managed to keep his bald-spot in the back concealed. I wound up just cutting over his ears and the mullet in the back. Easy for me I decided to do it when he was half asleep – I put him on the floor and snipped away. Big old softy me cried, I have no idea why. I hate getting Kidlette’s hair cut, too.

What is it about cutting my kids hair that makes me get all nuts? Maybe it has something to do with the time passing (too quickly) and them growing up. The other day Kidlette told me she wished her brother could stay a baby forever. I explained to her that as much as I would like that too, he needs to grow up and become the person he’s supposed to be. Someday he’ll be a first grader and get on the bus every morning. But for now he’s still a sweet little baby who’s hair I can play with while he nurses and looks up at me with big, shiny eyes.

Such a Happy Baby

Nice surprise this morning to find this great picture of Jack my in-laws took of him over the weekend. He sleeps through the night (12 hours!) and only fusses when he’s hungry or needs to be changed. When he’s sleepy, and you put him in the crib, he goes to sleep on his own.

This is all amazing to me because my daughter did none of those things.
