High heels make a gal feel great

High heels make a gal feel great

This morning I was catching up my reading – it could consume my entire day if I let it – and took a much needed detour from work related topics to something FUN.  Jo-Lynne’s post about end of summer / fall fashion got me thinking about how much I like to wear high heels, but don’t.  As a “work from home / stay at home / work for myself at the office outside the home” mom my wardrobe is *VERY* casual.  I have three main modes of dress – meeting clients, casual work, and cat vomit.  I tend to hover around casual work, which means a nearly stain free tee, capri jeans, and flip flops.  You don’t even want to know what the cat vomit days look like…

After reading Jo-Lynne’s post, and thinking back to the times I’ve met her in person – she always looks amazing.  She has one more kid than I do, and seems much more put together in home and fashion than I am.  After thinking about it, I realized I need to wear high heels more.  Casually.  Usually heels are reserved for the meeting client days, because besides being professional, they make me feel more ‘grown up’ as if being nearly 40 didn’t already.  I’m getting better with makeup, but not my hair (the fact that it falls out in huge nasty clumps isn’t exactly inspiring to take the time to style it).

So if I can add this one little thing – wearing heels on a casual basis – to my life it may just give me a bit of a confidence boost.  Maybe it’s the small simple things in life that make all the difference…

Baby Jail

Baby jail That’s what we call it. Baby Jail. It’s the nickname for the rig we had to construct to contain my 22 month old Houdini toddler. A few weeks back he discovered his own upper body strength and hoisted himself up and out of his crib with a very pronounced thud to the floor as a reward. Being a very curious little fellow, he repeated the experiment several times just to see if the result was the same. It was.

In the process of his escape attempts, he broke the front wall of the crib clear off the track. With the locking clips broken, we had few choices. First choice – buy a new crib and accompanying crib tent, but he will only be in it for another year or so, and he sure as hell isn’t getting any more siblings, so not very cost-effective. Second choice – convert the crib into a toddler bed (it’s a 3-in-1 crib meant to be a crib, toddler bed, and full size headboard) and make the best of it. A quick trip to Babies R Us for a bed rail and a gate for the doorway and we were all set. Of course the sales associate I get is pregnant with her first baby. The look of horror on her face when I asked for help constructing a baby jail to constrain my toddler in his room was priceless. First time parents are funny.

A Mother’s Thoughts

A Mother’s Thoughts

Philly Game
How was your Mother’s Day? Mine? Crazy. I planned on sleeping in this morning, but nature took it’s course and the sun came up – meaning I woke up at 6am.  We had an unplanned overnight visitor in our bed, Kidlette couldn’t sleep and wound up with us because on Saturday she slipped in the shower and wound up with a horrible wicked bruise on her side and ribs.  I’m still wondering if she cracked a rib or not.  By 8am I had kids laughing and climbing all over me trying to get my attention, the very best way to start a day I think. Not only did I receive some very beautiful artwork and homemade cards from my daughter, I got a gorgeous silver necklace and pendant with a mother and two children.  Still strikes me as strange to look at it and realize I’ve got two kids.  This is my second Mother’s Day with two kids, but for some reason it really hit home this year.

The rest of our day was spent with my husband’s family and then my family and all of our miscellaneous mothers, grandmothers, and aunts (and the 50 other family members that go along with them). I ate too much food and the kids were overtired. Today’s craziness came right on the heels of a baseball game yesterday where Kidlette got to march in a parade (with about 2000 other people!) around the Philadelphia Phillies field.  Dad is their head coach and I even got a quick shot of them on the JumboTron at the stadium!  The baby was out of his mind insane, or wait, maybe that was *me* for bringing him along.  In any case, this weekend was very busy and tiring and I want to know where the hell my vacation and spa trip is?!

Seriously though, I caught myself all weekend long looking at my kids and husband being extremely thankful that we are all together and healthy.  And happy.  Crazy, but happy.
