My family and I don't really get to do vacations all that often. I travel quite a bit for work and the timing just never seems right to pick up and take off for fun for a week. The fact that I hate to have family travel when everyone else is traveling has something to do with all the ill-timing in my calendar. I like to go places off season (but not "off weather"). It takes us about a year to get anything on our calendar and grab reservations and hotels and airfare. Sadly by then I am so overdue for a vacation my kids husband usually wants to send me on my own.

My rule – vacation must ALWAYS be someplace warm. I have next to zero tolerance for cold and snow. There will never be a skiing vacation in my lifetime. I have friends that swing the opposite and choose that evil white powdery snow over sand and sunshine every time. Some love lakes and mountains. I prefer warm, water, sunshine, and a great WiFi signal.

The two things I'd love to do with my kids (and husband, can't forget him!) is a Disney cruise and a trip back to Magic Kingdom to see the new Fantasyland. Some time ago we thought about a Disney Vacation Club membership but never got around to it. Just too busy I suppose.

First thing – a Disney Cruise. I like cruises because they are easy and stress free (for me anyhow). I like not having to plan dinner – or cook it – every night. I like being on a floating hotel. I like having kids programs so I can get my martini groove on with my husband. I love the idea I don't have to think!

Second – I am a fan of the Florida Magic Kindgom park and not so much the California park. No offense Cali, but there seems so much more to do and see in Florida. (And the Harry Potter Universal park is down there too — I digress…) One of our last trips to Walt Disney World ended in 34 degree weather (and no real coats to speak of) and a rental house full of the flu. I can tell you that when your toddler pukes all over your 'fine dining' dinner table the Disney staff is more than accommodating. We still have some making-up for that experience. I was holding out for a WDW vacation until the new section of the park was completed, and checking the website, it's getting close. I better start planning now!

A cruise ship and Florida seem too far away for me right now. I'm going to see about planning some sort of long weekend getaway that can appease my need to get away with my kids and husband while still keeping me sane and stress-free. Oh, and WARM. I'm always chasing the sun!
