I can attest that sitting from 9am until about 11pm (yes, I do get up!) can physically wreck you. If you spend any significant amount of time sitting at your desk (I'm lookin' at you Hangout marathon peeps!), a couch, or in a car, this +Lifehacker article is really something I think you should read.

There are real dangers in sitting too long. Leaning on your arms all day typing at a desk can really mess up the nerves in your hands (trust me on this – and the surgery to stop the damage doesn't look like a picnic either). Sitting too much without moving wrecks your hips and lower back. Our bodies were meant to walk and move upright – despite the few people I know that still seem to be knuckle-draggers <grin>.
