Thanks everyone for the well wishes during the hurricane! We made it through with power and no flooding / damage. Those around us were not that lucky. We live in west / central New Jersey, and while we are not 'coastal' we are not far from the Delaware River and the feeder streams that lead to it. Flooding in our area usually happens a day or two after a storm. Luckily our home is at least a mile from any water source and up fairly high – so the winds were our worst enemy. Since our town is still in shut-down mode and many are without power, I'll be calling around and seeing if any of my daughter's friends/families need a warm place to hang out, grab a shower, and eat.?

No word yet on if trick or treating has been postponed to the weekend. My son's 5th birthday is today on Halloween and I hope he will understand! He thinks everyone dresses up and goes trick or treating in honor of his birthday – too cute!

The local police stopped by our home last night (unrelated to the storm) and gave us some local updates. Can you believe that during the worst of the storm they caught a drunk driver speeding through the hurricane?! People are so stupid! There were dumb neighborhood kids out last night as well pulling pranks for Mischief Night even though we live in farmlands with NO street lights and fallen trees and live power wires. While I was livid over this last night, this morning I could only feel pity for the parents and hoping that none of their children stepped in any standing water with a live power line in it. As a parent these are the things I worry about, but some parents in town just think of how cool they will be in their children's eyes for letting them roam outside at 10pm in dark farmlands so they could toilet paper property on Mischief Night.
